The 2012 School Award goes to Foothills School of Arts and Sciences! The award of a $500 credit towards art supplies available through the Re:Use Market, will be available to Foothills School for 12 months from the event date.
We wish to thank all of the schools who entered this year: Foothills School, Washington Elementary, & Sacred Heart Catholic School and hope to see entries from you again next year!
Introduced in 2007, the Re:Use cup challenge was created for furniture design enthusiasts who wish to express themselves but are unable to enter a full-size entry in the Chair Affair.
Inspired by the Re:Use market - opened in Boise in 2006 and recently reopened at a new location in November 2011- and the growing awareness within our industry for conservation and reuse of materials, we made it a requirement of the challenge to take the components of an everyday, thrown away item and artistically Re:Use them.
The parameters are simple:
Visit your favorite local coffee shop. Order a 12 ounce hot beverage to-go and enjoy. Re:Use the expired drink cup, lid, stir-stick and insulated sleeve to create a miniature chair. Cut, tear, rip, glue… and then marvel at your brilliant design!
Drop off your entry to Business Interiors of Idaho by Friday, April 13, 2012, and then attend the Chair Affair Gala on Saturday, April 21, 2012 to view your masterpiece and all of the entries on display. Any entries disqualified by idi for not following all of the rules of materials and construction will not be eligible for vote but may be displayed if room permits.
2012 Youth School Award Expanded!
In the past years we have expanded the Youth (12 & Under) category and had a great response from some of our local elementary schools. In acknowledgement of Idaho’s dwindling school budgets & an even greater need to support art and design in our Idaho schools, last year idi added an additional $200 award category to the school whose participating (12 & Under) students receive the most cumulative votes in the Youth category. This year we are increasing the amount of the Youth School Award to $500.
The School Award will be a $500 credit towards art supplies available through the Re:Use Market located at 1517 W. Main Street, downtown Boise, Idaho. The teacher of the winning school will have access to the supplies awarded for 12 months. We hope this will encourage interaction between schools and sources such as the Re:Use Market.
We are also working on organizing some volunteer instruction from idi members for elementary classes who want to enter the Re:Use challenge. If your school is interested, please contact Christine Duft-McConville at christine.duft@gmail.com. On the evening of April 5th, 2012 , as part of First Thursday, we will also be holding a free Re:Use workshop at the Re:Use Market for any kids (12 and under) who would like to create an entry. Instruction, tools, and materials will be provided. Parents, drop in between the hours of 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with your child and join us!
2012 Re:Use Cup Challenge Awards
